Fiber Optic & Cabling Lead Technician

Position Summary 

As a fiber optic and cabling lead technician, you will work as a key member
of our team, responsible for enhancing overall jobsite productivity and ensuring high-quality work. You will assist with multiple aspects of the installation processes, including fiber optic splicing and testing, pathway construction, rough-in, routing, Telecommunication Room build-out, cable terminations, labeling, and grounding. You may be assigned to lead a team of 3-5 members, focusing on completing tasks safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of quality while maintaining professionalism.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prioritize safety by following safe work practices and adhering to company and client worksite policies
  • Promote Duke Electric’s Core Values to foster and safeguard our family-centric culture
  • Install fiber optic and structured cabling systems, including all aspects of the installation process
  • Read and interpret floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets
  • Set up and operate a variety of copper and fiber testers
  • Perform system testing and troubleshooting as required
  • Terminate, splice, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber and copper installations
  • Develop Technicians to take on the responsibilities of a Lead Technician
  • Oversee jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Comply with customer safety and security requirements
  • Demonstrate expertise in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Requirements 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Manufacturer certifications
  • BICSI Installer Level 1 or Level 2 certification (preferred)
  • Fiber Optic certifications (preferred)
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in fiber splicing and testing and/or structured cabling
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English, Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to distinguish color codes
  • Ability to pass background and drug testing

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Carry and climb ladders up to 20 feet
  • Work in tight, confined spaces
  • Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms
