Fiber Optic & Cabling Lead Technician
Position Summary
As a fiber optic and cabling lead technician, you will work as a key member
of our team, responsible for enhancing overall jobsite productivity and ensuring high-quality work. You will assist with multiple aspects of the installation processes, including fiber optic splicing and testing, pathway construction, rough-in, routing, Telecommunication Room build-out, cable terminations, labeling, and grounding. You may be assigned to lead a team of 3-5 members, focusing on completing tasks safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of quality while maintaining professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize safety by following safe work practices and adhering to company and client worksite policies
- Promote Duke Electric’s Core Values to foster and safeguard our family-centric culture
- Install fiber optic and structured cabling systems, including all aspects of the installation process
- Read and interpret floorplans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets
- Set up and operate a variety of copper and fiber testers
- Perform system testing and troubleshooting as required
- Terminate, splice, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber and copper installations
- Develop Technicians to take on the responsibilities of a Lead Technician
- Oversee jobsite organization and basic housekeeping maintenance
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
- Comply with customer safety and security requirements
- Demonstrate expertise in technical tasks such as testing and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Manufacturer certifications
- BICSI Installer Level 1 or Level 2 certification (preferred)
- Fiber Optic certifications (preferred)
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in fiber splicing and testing and/or structured cabling
- Ability to read, write, and understand English, Spanish is a plus
- Ability to distinguish color codes
- Ability to pass background and drug testing

Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Carry and climb ladders up to 20 feet
- Work in tight, confined spaces
- Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms
